Safeguarding Standards in Psychotherapy
At the British Psychotherapy Institute (BPI), we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of ethical practice and client safety. Our complaints process exists to ensure that all accredited professionals act in accordance with our Code of Ethics and Professional Practice, and that the public can trust in the support they receive.
If you believe that a BPI-accredited therapist has acted unethically or outside professional guidelines, you have the right to raise a formal concern or complaint.
When to Make a Complaint
You may wish to submit a complaint if you believe a BPI member has: ✔ Violated professional boundaries or behaved inappropriately
✔ Failed to maintain confidentiality or safeguard your data
✔ Provided therapy outside of their competence or training
✔ Acted unethically, dishonestly, or without integrity
✔ Breached any part of the BPI Code of Ethics and Professional Practice
We take all concerns seriously and will respond with transparency, fairness, and due process.
